Vinton gets vinyl

By: Maggie Gough

Entrepreneur, Bryan Haizlip, moves to Roanoke all the way from Greensboro, North Carolina, to open up his own retro record store.

The man behind this unique store right down the road from downtown Roanoke has quite the story to tell. Bryan Haizlip started out as a musician before he ended up on tour traveling the world with his band after college. After going through about 45 different countries sharing his music, he eventually made it back home to Greensboro, North Carolina. It was there where he started up his own recording studio with a record store in the front.

When I asked Haizlip what made him want to get up and move everything all here to Virginia, his response couldn't be more simple.

"37 years was long enough in Greensboro," said Haizlip. "I was just kind of ready for a move."

Bryan also went on to explain that the area of Vinton has a lot of potential and that it is a town that has been wanting more youthful businesses. Bryan is extremely grateful for how positive and gracious the town of Vinton has been towards him.

Now Bryan Haizlip is no newbie to the vinyl world, he has been buying and selling records for 20 years now. Bryan is able to constantly keep his shop stacked with records from buying collections off of people.

"I bought that whole tub behind you for a hundred bucks," said Haizlip. "People just come in and they want to get rid of them."

While I explored Bryan's little record shop, I couldn't help but learn so much from him and the customers who came in. From the first major punk bands to the original Nirvana records to some of the first Walt Disney records, Bryan can tell you about it all, and his record store can supply you with it all. Not only does Bryan's shop include a lot of rare finds, like records reaching up to $200 a piece, but you can also walk out of his store with retro records that only cost you a few bucks.

If interested in checking out this retro Vinyl shop, his RPM Facebook page can give you further information on store hours and location.
